Cookies are small text files that websites put on your device to remember things between visits - whether you're logged in, what's in the cart, whether you've seen a notice. Most of the web uses far too many. This site uses very few. The list below is the complete inventory. Nothing is used for advertising, profiling, or tracking you across the internet.
Strictly necessary
These store small amounts of data in your browser so the site works. They're technically localStorage entries, not cookies in the strict sense - they stay on your device and are never sent to a third party.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
oldforge_chat_history |
Stores your chat conversation so messages persist between visits. | Until you clear it (bin icon in chat). |
oldforge_chat_open |
Remembers whether you had the chat widget open. | Persistent. |
oldforge_session_id |
A random identifier for your chat session, so replies link together. | Until you clear history. |
oldforge_cookie_notice |
Remembers you've dismissed the cookie notice, so it doesn't reappear. | Persistent. |
No analytics, and no third parties
This site sets no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies. There is no Google Analytics, no tag manager, no pixel, no fingerprinting, and no third party that sets anything in your browser at all. The table above is not a summary of the interesting ones; it is the complete list.
Until August 2026 there was Google Analytics here, and it loaded before this notice had appeared - which is not consent, whatever the notice said afterwards. Rather than wrap it in a banner, it was removed. Visits are counted, where they are counted at all, from the web server's own access log, which is rotated and deleted after fourteen days and never leaves the machine.
One consequence worth stating plainly: nobody here knows which pages you looked at.
How to manage cookies
You can clear all cookies and localStorage via your browser settings - every modern browser supports this.
If you clear your browser storage, the chat widget will "forget" you on next visit - nothing bad happens, your chat history and preferences simply reset. No data on our side is lost.
Changes to this policy
If we start using new cookies or change how existing ones work, we'll update this page and refresh the effective date. There's no mailing list - it'll simply be here, one click from every page.
