Our founder Andrei Trimbitas answered a question on security monitoring blind spots - a topic close to what we deal with day-to-day working with small and medium businesses. The full article is live here: [The Most Overlooked Cybersecurity Threats - And How to Defend Against Them](https://www.safetydetectives.com/blog/cybersecurity-threats-expert-quotes/) The core of Andrei's answer is that the biggest blind spot in security monitoring isn't a technical gap - it's a structural one. SMBs overwhelmingly rely on MSPs for their IT, but most MSPs are not genuine MSSPs. The actual security monitoring gets quietly delegated down a chain of third parties, and at no point in that chain is there a vetting standard that businesses can rely on. The result is that organisations believe they are being monitored when, in practice, the quality and accountability of that monitoring is unknown. The other issue we called out is onboarding. When an MSP takes on a new client, they inherit an entire environment they've never properly audited. Existing compromises - dormant malware, active command-and-control footholds, credentials already being exfiltrated - may simply be invisible to whatever stack the MSP drops in on day one. Barely anyone conducts a proper security investigation before declaring an environment "under management". We also touched on the industry's growing reliance on AI-powered detection. The honest assessment: these tools are still maturing. Leaning on them without strong human oversight is shifting responsibility onto black boxes of uncertain quality. Until there's an enforceable competency baseline across the MSP supply chain, threats will continue to persist in environments whose owners genuinely believe they are protected.
